A year to forget

The year 2012 will not be looked back on with fond memories for Scotland. Only two wins from eight games, not a single one in competitive action, and yet another major tournament passing us by with noses pressed up against the window. Only if you’re into football betting and laid on the inevitability of Craig Levein’s eventual sacking can you have taken any satisfaction from the year as a Scotland fan.

Scotland v Eastern Europe

It’s 1998, I am 7 years old and Scotland are playing Brazil in the group stages of the FIFA World Cup. Little did I know it would be at least 16 years until our great country would be gracing the stage at a national competition. We still have a mathematical chance of reaching Brazil in two years time, but this would involve a miracle in proportion to me becoming a professional footballer.

Scots fall 8 places in World Rankings

The latest update to the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking list has seen Scotland fall eight places to 49th. After June’s rise to 41st, Craig Levein’s side have taken a hit thanks largely to their own inactivity, having failed to qualify for UEFA Euro 2012, as much as anything.

Scotland rise to 41st in the world

Scotland have risen seven places in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking list. Despite their recent 5-1 humiliation at the hands of the U.S.A., the Scots are now ranked 41 in the world, jumping above the likes of Mali and 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winners, Zambia.
