Strachan named new Scotland boss

Gordon Strachan has been named as the new coach of the Scottish national team today on a three and a half year deal. The former Celtic boss replaces Craig Levein, who was sacked in November after a disastrous start to the FIFA World Cup 2014 qualifying campaign, and will be charged with trying to end Scotland’s long wait for major tournament qualification.

The next Scotland manager: Bert van Marwijk

Owen Coyle, Gordon Strachan, Alex McLeish, Joe Jordan, the list of names in the running for the Scotland job is hardly inspiring. Over the coming days, each of the writing team here at Hamilton Crescent will be putting forth their argument for who should take the Scotland job. First up, Shaughan McGuigan.

The short international break has come at just the right time for Craig Levein. He wouldn’t admit it of course, he’d probably talk about wishing he could get straight back in the saddle with another game and turn things around, after all this is a man who was still talking in positives after four points were squandered from two insipid home performances against Serbia and Macedonia.
